When asked about the meaning of this work, 'Star', Michael replied:

"Many of us are inspired and drawn onward by something beyond ourselves. This 'something' is traditionally symbolised by a star, but as we see from the picture, the inspiration is also something partly created and assisted by ourselves; our yearning our practicality and our creative imagination. The creatures in the cart represent nature and are part of this journey too. Their company is important to the person here, who wisely brings them along on the pilgrimage, and so includes the natural world in this spiritual journey. Even though it's an elaborate construction here, it depicts something which is entirely natural, essential and simple."
